Finding Your Perfect Pet with Petfinder.com

Petfinder.com is a great place to find all pets in your area that are in need of a home.  So, before you go to a pet store and buy a puppy, please do some research first.  These are my top 5 reasons for not buying a puppy from a pet store:
  • It encourages the puppy mills, cruel places in which dogs are kept locked in cages, standing in their own fecal matter, often without medical care for their entire lives.  Despite what the store may say, the vast majority of pet store puppies come from puppy mills.
  • All that inattentive breeding leads to dogs with massive health problems due to a limited gene pool - what's cute now can be expensive and heartbreaking later.
  • There are over 13,000 animals just in the vegas area that need a home.
  • Adult dogs from the shelter are often already trained/housebroken.
  • Adopting a dog that needs a home will give you the warm and fuzzies and add meaning to your life.
So that's it.  If you decide you want to adopt a pet, you can do all your research and find the little fuzzie on Petfinder.com and here is a short video to show you how:

  1. Amelia, Thanks for demonstrating PetFinder.com - looks like a great resource and probably more up-to-date than most books with the added feature of being able to tell right away if the type of pet you are looking for is available close by. thanks for your effort in building this screencast!

  2. Well done, Amelia. I liked the topic and resource that you discussed; it fits well with your blog topic. The screencast was very clear and easy to understand, the talking fluid with no sense of “script reading”. I would recommend using a USB or wireless mouse as you can hear the clicks (or use the tap feature if using a laptop). I would also recommend inserting a link into your blog to petfinder.com for visitors to easily navigate to the page. The post was also informative and created a nice lead in for the video. It is obvious you care about pets greatly. One suggestion would be to create a series of short videos so that you may be able to discuss each section in greater detail as there is quite a lot of information located on the site. As a pet owner this is a great resource to also learn about the breed I have, not just for adoption. I will be looking to this sight in the future when looking to add to the family.

  4. Hi Amelia, a well done video, it provided a lot of information, in a couple of sport it almost seemed like you were rushed, and you got kind of quiet making it hard to hear, if you have a loud background like me.
